Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • Parking

As we are in the heart of Medieval Sarlat with its narrow cobbled pedestrian-only streets, parking directly outside the property is not possible, although for loading and unloading purposes you may stop at the top of Rue Montaigne, near the No Entry sign. The Bed & Breakfast is approx 50 meters down the street, on the right. Within 50 paces of our property there is usually ample parking either in a public car park or on the roadside.

There are no Hotels or B&B’s within the Medieval center that have on-site parking.  There are both free and pay parking areas throughout the town. Note that parking is more challenging during the holidays, festivals, and the European travel season of August.

The Flowbird App can be downloaded for free and can be used remotely, instead of the parking meters all over the Dordogne if you have data or Wi-Fi on your phone.

Further information can be found at the town's website: https://www.sarlat.fr/stationnement/

  • WiFi

We have excellent WiFi that is accessible throughout the property.

  • Televisions

Our individual rooms do not have televisions as instead we encourage tranquility and quiet at our bed and breakfast. There is so much to see and explore in the area of southern France that we wish for guests to spend their time out and about or enjoying either rest or the company of others when possible at La Lanterne. There is a television in the Apartment and in the lounge that has programming available with guest app logins (such as guest personal Netflix accounts). Still, we do have excellent WiFi available throughout our facility for use on guest personal devices.

  • Cancellation Policy and Payment Terms

Cancellations made within 48 hours of booking your reservation: deposits refundable as long as arrival date is greater than 30 days away.

Cancellations made past 48 hours of booking your reservation: deposits (25 euros per night) forfeited.

Reservations are due in full and non-cancellable within 2 weeks of your arrival date.

Please note any balances owed are preferred to be paid with cash as we are a small facility and cannot accept credit card payments at this time.

  • Everything you need for a comfortable stay

Toiletry necessities are included for all accommodations (towels, bed linens, toilet paper, facial tissue, shower gel, hairdryers). Self-cater guests (guests of The Apartment and Whole House rentals) also receive laundry detergent, dish soap, and paper towels.

  • Laundry Services

Laundry facilities are only available to guests of The Apartment and self-cater Whole House Rentals. Guests of the Bed and Breakfast do not have access to laundry facilities.

  • Stairs

Please note that our property is located on the most photographed street of Sarlat, right on the steep hill of Rue Montaigne. There are only a couple of stairs into the courtyard and into the home, and the Montaigne Room has no steps following. Other rooms all have a few steps on the way, with the most inaccessible being the Courtyard Room due to its spiral staircase within the two-story room that leads to the bedroom area.

  • Bed Sizes

Please note European bed sizes and USA bed sizes do not necessarily correlate. Please read the measurements.

  • Taxe sejour

The town of Sarlat charges a city tax of 0.85 per person per day, which we collect on their behalf in cash.

  • Breakfast

Not to be missed as guests are always impressed!

    Optional at an additional charge.

Can be decided on a day to day basis.

Served between 8:00-10:00 AM each morning at the lounge. Sign-up will be required the evening prior.

Available only for guests of La Lanterne B&B due to capacity restrictions (cannot accommodate breakfast for guests of The Apartment) and breakfast is not included in Whole House Rentals.

  • Minimum Night Requirement

Each reservation requires a minimum of two nights. Please note there is so much to experience in and surrounding Sarlat that we highly encourage extending your stay to 5 or more nights in order to fully enjoy your trip.

  • Check-in and Check-out Times

    Check in is between 16:00 - 18:00

Check out is prior to 10:00

Important: Please let us know your approximate arrival time in advance. If you think you may arrive outside the official check-in hours please also let us know in advance so we can make sure we are here to greet you.  We ask that guests please call us on the day of their arrival should any changes of their estimated arrival time occur.

  • Peaceful Sleep

Each room has blackout curtains for better rest of our guests. Ear plugs are available upon request.

  • Air Conditioning

We do not have central air conditioning. Each guest room has its own fan and light bedding for the summer. Our very thick walls (approximately 38 cm / 15 inches) created in 1503 naturally cool the home so that the heat of the summer does not greatly affect us. Drawing the curtains during the day or opening the windows for a fresh breeze of French southern air circulating the home also helps the heat of summer.

  • Infants and Children

La Lanterne B&B and the Apartment do not have facilities, such as a crib, for infants. We encourage bookings primarily for adults for the bed and breakfast, and our self-cater Apartment is best for accommodating families.

  • Expectations for Tourists Crowds

In planning your trip please consider timing regarding the crowds you may encounter in Sarlat for busier times of the year, such as during festivals and the European summer holiday in August. We are located centrally within the medieval village, and the famous markets are literally outside of our doorstep! Guests tend to be pleasantly surprised at how quiet it typically is in La Lanterne despite our central location. Still, if there are festivals at night with large crowds then you may hear some noise, particularly in the Courtyard Room and Montaigne Room since they face Rue Montaigne.

  • Check-In Options for Self-Cater Guests of The Apartment and Whole House Rental

Self-check-in via lockbox is available for guests or you may opt to meet us to show you your accommodations. Please let us know your preference upon booking.
