Sarlat is situated in the heart of the Perigord Noir and central for all the best sites and sights of the Dordogne region. Its both an artists and photographers dream location as the light, the scenery and the characters all combine to give a snapshot of life unique in the world.

If its pre history you want then a short drive brings brings you to the Vezere valley where huge limestone cliffs overhang the road and Les Eyzies plays host to the hidden world of the struggle between Modern Man and the Neanderthals.

Moving on a millenium,the soaring ramparts of medieval castles provide a backdrop to the lush green of the Dordogne valley. Standing watch over these reminders of the regions turbulent history is the Bastide town of Domme,which, like Sarlat seems lost in time.

The gardens of Marqueyssac and D'Eyrignac provide opportunties to explore a more formal landscape whilst the gently rolling hills offer a chance of superb vistas and wild oak forests , home to the elusive wild boar .
